After a historic run to the College World Series Championship game this past season, the Texas Longhorns have tapped Jim Schlossnagle as their new head baseball coach. Schlossnagle, who has spent the past 17 seasons at TCU, brings a wealth of success and experience to one of the most coveted coaching positions in college athletics.
AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Texas has named Jim Schlossnagle as its new head baseball coach, Vice President and Athletics Director Chris Del Conte announced on Wednesday.

Schlossnagle comes to the Forty Acres after spending the past 17 seasons at TCU, where he led the Horned Frogs to unprecedented heights, including three College World Series appearances, four Big 12 regular-season championships, and six NCAA Tournament berths.

Schlossnagle's arrival in Austin comes at a time of great excitement for Texas baseball, which reached the College World Series Championship game this past season for the first time since 2009. The Longhorns won the Big 12 Tournament and finished the year with a 50-21 record.

Schlossnagle has a career record of 702-352-4 in 23 seasons as a head coach, including stints at TCU, Kansas State, and UNLV. He has been named Big 12 Coach of the Year four times and was a finalist for the National Coach of the Year award in 2017.
The new Longhorns skipper has also had great success on the international stage, serving as an assistant coach for the United States team that won the bronze medal at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and the silver medal at the 2017 World Baseball Classic.
Schlossnagle takes over a Longhorns program that has a rich tradition and a passionate fan base. Texas has won six national championships, the most recent coming in 2005, and has made 36 NCAA Tournament appearances.
Schlossnagle is expected to bring a strong work ethic and a competitive spirit to the Forty Acres. He is known for his attention to detail and his ability to develop players both on and off the field.
"I believe that we can build something special here at Texas," Schlossnagle said. "We have a great foundation in place, and I am confident that we can take this program to the next level. I can't wait to get started."
Schlossnagle will be formally introduced as the head baseball coach at a press conference on Friday, July 1.
James Albert Schlossnagle (born May 3, 1965) is an American college baseball coach and former outfielder. He is the head baseball coach at the University of Texas, a position he has held since 2023. Schlossnagle has been the head coach at TCU (2006–2022), Kansas State (1998–2002), and UNLV (1994–1997).
Schlossnagle played college baseball at the University of Northern Iowa. He was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 27th round of the 1988 Major League Baseball draft, but did not sign.
Schlossnagle began his coaching career as an assistant at the University of Nebraska–Omaha in 1989. He then spent two years as an assistant at Northern Iowa before becoming the head coach at UNLV in 1994.
In 1998, Schlossnagle became the head coach at Kansas State. He led the Wildcats to the NCAA Tournament in each of his five seasons at the helm, including a trip to the College World Series in 2002.
In 2006, Schlossnagle became the head coach at TCU. He led the Horned Frogs to the NCAA Tournament in each of his 17 seasons at the helm, including three College World Series appearances. TCU won the Big 12 regular-season championship four times under Schlossnagle.
Schlossnagle has been named Big 12 Coach of the Year four times. He was also a finalist for the National Coach of the Year award in 2017.
